An R&D company with a deliberately narrow remit

BioCare Katterdom is an internationally operating research and development company headquartered in the Netherlands. We focus on one thing: better formulations for dogs and cats.

Who we are

Born from a simple observation

The market for companion animal products is growing fast, but the substantiation behind what goes into the packaging does not always keep pace. Ingredient lists get longer, claims get bolder, and it becomes ever harder — for brands and owners alike — to tell substance from packaging.

BioCare Katterdom was founded to close that gap on the development side. We build formulations up from the needs of the animal, document why every ingredient is present, and hand that substantiation to our partners along with the recipe.

Our head office in the Netherlands coordinates research and collaboration with production partners and specialists at home and abroad.

What we set out to achieve

We want every product that comes out of our development process to be explicable to a veterinarian, a brand owner and an attentive pet owner — in the same words.

Principles

What guides our decisions

  • Safety before speed

    A formulation only moves to the next phase once its safety assessment is complete. A deadline does not change that.

  • Restraint with claims

    We communicate what we can substantiate and stay within the boundaries of European feed legislation. We would rather make a modest claim that holds.

  • Traceable decisions

    Every ingredient choice is recorded in the development dossier, including the reasoning and the sources behind it.

  • Respect for the animal

    We develop products suited to the natural feeding patterns and behaviour of dogs and cats, and take no part in research that places a burden on animals.

Head office

Based in the Netherlands

The Netherlands is a natural home for this work: a strong tradition in nutrition and animal health research, short lines to European knowledge institutions, and an excellent logistical position within the EU. From our Dutch office we coordinate research, quality assurance and international partnerships.
